Let's start with the basic. A Coyote working? I've always imagined the Coyote on the looney toons running around with ACME stuff and blowing up into the sky every chance he could.
But then, as we all happen to live, there is more. Always. And then you sit on a class and learn that you can know more. This work of native literature teaches a bit (and I mean, just the tip) of the native ideology and spiritual world.
In the short story, this old man decides to send Coyote (animals are a huge part of the spirituality in native Americans)
As we may not imagine, not all the gods are good. You've spent you whole life thinking that there is but one god, when the old natives thought gods walked among us. Imagine the idea of you walking among the gods.
So, yeah. And Coyote pricked men. And the animals were tired of reviving him. It was almost human, this beautiful creature. And he created and helped men, and he roamed the earth for a REALLY long while.
And then he has nothing else to do. Have you ever imagined that? Having eternity before you and having nothing else to do?
B-O-R-I-N-G.
So this old chief (the God of gods) send this other guy to pick him up. Yeah... Like, pick him up.
Which is awesome by the way. And the Coyote (I only imagine he was comfortable enough) did not believed this police-god that he was going to go home.
That reminded me of when your sister comes to pick you up and you're all "are you sure? could you come back later?"
I mean, I know it looks like I'

m making fun of this story, but not at all. I'm trying to explain with such simple words what the tale was about.
But let's not say things that may be offensive. Coyote finishes his work is amazing; it lets you know more of a really old culture, a culture where the divine walked among the mundane.
It leave you thinking. It leave you amazed.
